Service and
Justice
This
commission seeks the growth of the parish as servants to the
human needs of the people of the Warren area. It is concerned
both with immediate needs such as food, clothing, and shelter,
and with systemic issues such as economic justice, world peace,
and discrimination against minorities.
Below are more
projects our Service and Justice Committee are working on.
Committee for
the Disabled
This
committee is concerned with issues that directly affect the
disabled of the parish. It also sponsors a Mass for the Disabled
once a year, usually held in the fall, and seeks to make
parishioners aware of the special needs of the disabled.
Parish Health
Ministry
This committee promotes health and wellness. They are active
in community health screenings at the St. Vincent de Paul Soup
Kitchen and Blessed Sacrament’s bingo sessions.
Blood Drive
Once a year,
volunteers from Blessed Sacrament aid the Red Cross when they
use our church as a donor site. Volunteers provide snacks and
atmosphere for blood donors.
St. Vincent
de Paul
Volunteers
of this group provide food and other necessities to the less
fortunate of our community. Volunteers work daily to deliver
food staples and also work in the soup kitchen once a month,
usually on the third Thursday, cooking and serving a hot meal.
During the holiday season they provide Christmas and Easter food
baskets to over 100 families in cooperation with the Salvation
Army.
Christmas in July
During the busy
summer months, the local service agencies are in need of our
help. They provide the parish with “wish lists” of items they
need, and parishioners select a card from the “tree,” purchase
the items, wrap them, and place them back under the tree. The
committee then delivers them to each of the agencies.
Nursery
This service is available during the Sunday morning
liturgies. A “Co-op” approach is used to provide
adequate staffing.
Transportation Committee
This
committee provides transportation services to persons who cannot
drive. Local agencies depend on this community service. Time
commitments to volunteer for this ministry can be as little as
once a year.
Charity Fund
Committee
Blessed
Sacrament Parish tithes its weekly income, setting aside 5% for
works of charity. This committee reviews requests for financial
assistance and award grants made from funds accumulated as a
result of this parish tithe.
Respect Life
Activities
Members of
Blessed Sacrament Church strive to persuade others through
example, education and prayer, that human life is a gift from
God over which we have no authority. From the moment life is
given at conception until its natural end we must work to
protect it.
Foreign
Mission Support
Blessed
Sacrament Parish seeks to develop awareness and support for the
Church’s home and foreign missions through programs of awareness
and through financial support.
Relay For Life
Blessed Sacrament
parishioners participate in this yearly fun event sponsored by
the American Cancer Society. Fund raising activities go on
throughout the year. In May many parishioners walk the twenty
four hour relay as a parish team.
Family Soup Kitchen
Families
of the parish come together one Saturday per month to cook and
serve at the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen in Warren. This
outreach helps those in need in Trumbull County.
